A few weeks ago we announced a new concept called the Fair Start Act, or FSA. Here’s a refresher: “One of the most unique aspects of Upland’s economy is that we’re focused on making it work for everyone. In order to ensure that new members of the Upland community can participate in our economy, we’ve created a new collection of policies called the Fair Start Act, or FSA. The FSA, for example, will reserve a certain percentage of lower cost (and unminted) properties for players that are either Visitors or Uplanders, meaning Pros and Directors will not be able to mint these properties directly. The more Uplanders that can get off to a good start, the more thriving of an economy Upland will have.”
In order to celebrate the upcoming rollout of the FSA, we’re announcing FSA Fest! FSA Fest is a two week festival of Upland events, celebrating growth, community, and our shared goal of making the Upland economy work for everyone.
Some of the events coming up this week
People’s Champ Challenge. The winner is the player who has visited the most properties owned by Visitors within 3 days. Prizes will go to the top 3 participants.
Great Start Challenge. The winner is the Visitor who receives the most property visits in 3 days. Prizes will go to the top 3 participants.
A 7 day Refer an Uplander challenge, with bonus prizes.
A 7 day Rising Star challenge, with bonus prizes.
The community will nominate players for the Community Builder Award. Players with the top 3 nominations will get prizes.
We’ll also be announcing a larger special event, based on the improved Scavenger Hunt mechanism.
As usual, we’ll be announcing the details of these events and challenges both in the app as well as on our social channels, so make sure you follow us and join our Discord to stay connected.
What is FSA Hype Fest building up to? Surprise, surprise! Upland is launching Fresno, California! For Upland, It’s more than just another city. Fresno represents a fundamental component of the Upland economy, a space where new and casual players can learn the ropes of Upland, without having to spend a lot of UPX. The launch of Fresno brings us a big step closer to achieving the vision of a digital economy that anyone can participate in, and a game that anyone can play.
So, what should we know about Fresno? A very chill California city with a lot of low key amazing spots to check out. As Wikipedia tells us: “Fresno is a city in California’s San Joaquin Valley. Created in the early 1900s, Forestiere Underground Gardens consists of Roman-catacombs-inspired subterranean passages and courtyards. Fresno Chaffee Zoo has sea lions and a stingray touch pool. Sprawling, trail-lined Woodward Park is home to the Shinzen Japanese Garden. The city is a base for Yosemite National Park, with its waterfalls and giant rock formations.” Fresno is about a 3 hour drive from SF.
Fresno will be the first city to be mostly allocated to the FSA, putting it in the “Affordable” category (about 75% of the city will be available for purchase only by Visitors and Uplanders).
FSA restrictions apply only to minting, not to the marketplace.
A player who lives in Fresno can always take a train and participate in SF events (live cheap, but still party in SF).
The core functionality will be the same as SF, proportionally lower cost and returns (both on properties and collections).
Unlike NYC, Fresno will not be in Vanilla mode, collections and treasure hunts will be included at launch!
When property development launches, Fresno will receive it soon after.
Some new players will start off in Fresno when they join Upland as visitors. We’ll explore this option to determine how to best design an experience that best ensures a good start in Upland.
Fresno will be ready for launch in early October.
In order to launch Fresno, we need a convenient and inexpensive way for Uplanders to to travel to and from San Francisco (and other cities, in the future). This is why we’re excited to introduce the concept of trains in Upland! Trains will function very similarly to airplanes, but slower and less expensive (like the real world).
In order to run a train system, Upland will have train terminals. Economically, train terminals are quite different from airports; the train must be kept inexpensive, as it is a primary form of mass transit, that will help make cities truly dynamic.
You could be a train station owner! We will have a drawing that will determine which players will be gifted the first 3 train terminals.
The remaining terminals will remain locked. Winners of each special challenge and community event listed above will also earn one entry to the final Train Terminal Drawing. There will be less than 40 entries total. More detailed terms and conditions will be announced closer to the drawing.
We can’t wait to share these new features with the Upland community as it continues to grow.If you weren’t on the Upland hype train before, it’s a good time to jump on. Choochoo!
UPDATE: Additional Terms and Conditions of FSA Fest
Winning first or second in the following FSA Fest events will qualify you for one entry into the Train Terminal Drawing.
Community Builder Award
Rising Star Challenge
Refer an Uplander Challenge
Great Start Challenge
People’s Champ Challenge
The above 4 challenges will also repeat next week with the additional entry reward.
In addition there will be more community based events that will be added to the qualifying list, within the next week. A player can qualify for more than one entry by winning more than one competition.
The Train Terminal Drawing will determine which 3 players will each receive one of the first train terminals in Upland. The Drawing will be random, and each entry will have an equal chance of being selected. The Drawing will be carried out prior to the launching of Fresno in early October. Drawing entries are non transferable and contain no UPX value.
The FSA Fest events will be held between 03:00 PM Pacific Time on 16th September 2020 and 11:59 PM Pacific Time on 2nd October 2020. The event is conducted by the creator of Upland: Uplandme, Inc. (herein: “the game operator”). It includes multiple mini-events, which are here defined as specific events with their own rules and times within this set week. Certain details of these mini-events are mentioned above, while others by design are to be revealed on social media during the course of the event.
No purchase necessary.
Winning a mini-event grants the user entry into a draw for prizes (see section 8 below).
We reiterate that having more than one account per person is strictly prohibited. If the use of multiple accounts by a single individual is detected it may void said user’s eligibility in all of the aforementioned in addition to other potential penalties or consequences levied by the game operator.
If a “mini-event”, as defined in the text above, results in more than one winner, a pre-draw for prizes will be conducted.
Winners of prizes will be drawn after the FSA Fest ends.
If no user wins a specific mini-event, the distribution of leftover prizes will be at the discretion of the game operator.
In the case of any ties, the number of Drawing entry winners will still be limited to 2.
Ties will be broken by having a random drawing between tied players.
Note, we would also like to make a correction to the Terms and Conditions for the “Hello, NYC Challenges”. These additional conditions will apply to both the current and future events: Between players tied for last place, ties will be broken by having a random drawing, to determine access to exclusive winnings.
