Millennium Park Reverse Auction

First up is Millennium Park in Chicago, which features the famous Cloud Gate statue, otherwise known as “The Bean!” Built to commemorate the new millennium, Millennium Park has been a cultural hub of free expression in the heart of Chicago since 2004.

Millennium Park is more than an attraction — it’s an expression of the Chicago experience. The lakefront campus, located in the heart of downtown Chicago, is home to the iconic Cloud Gate statue (aka “The Bean”), interactive fountains, tranquil gardens, free events, public art, skating rinks, rock climbing, and plenty of green space.

Fun Facts about Millennium Park

  • Cloud Gate is a statue inspired by liquid mercury and was built to reflect both the sky and Chicago Skyline. It’s wiped down and power washed daily which includes a twice-annual cleaning using 40 gallons of liquid detergent!
  • When Millennium Park opened in 2004, it was celebrated with a Three-Day festival of concerts, tours, and activities!
  • Originally, Millennium Park was to be named “The Garden of the Arts,” but John Bryan, former CEO of Sara Lee refuted the name proclaiming “I don’t want to meet anyone at a place called Garden of the Arts…It’s going to be Millennium Park.”

Yoshi’s Reverse Auction

The second Landmark in Saturday’s auction will be the historic jazz club, Yoshi’s, in Oakland, CA. Since 1972, Yoshi’s has been a staple in the jazz community, earning them a reputation as the Bay Area’s premier location for Japanese cuisine and jazz music.

Today, Yoshi’s is an award-winning 310-seat live performance venue with a state-of-the-art sound system and design, occupying 17,000 square feet in the heart of Oakland’s Jack London Square.

Fun Facts about Yoshi’s

  • Yoshi’s was founded in 1972 by Yoshie Akiba, a WWII war orphan, alongside her two best friends, Kaz Kajimura, who was a journalist and a carpenter, as well as Hiroyuki Hori, who was a painter and a cook.
  • Despite a variety of locations over the years, Yoshi’s settled back in Jack London Square during the revitalization of the Port of Oakland to be rebuilt as a jazz concert hall with an attached Japanese restaurant.

Price Analysis

Sitting at 105 WASHINGTON ST in Oakland, Yoshi’s clocks in at a modest 642 UP2. The original minting price for this property would have been 64,200 UPX if it were not a landmark.
