NFT Portal Update

At Upland, we firmly believe in the power of the open metaverse and envision an open economy as the future of online platforms. As part of our commitment to this vision, we have been working on enabling the interoperability of digital assets across different blockchains.

Previously, we successfully built an NFT portal with WAX where players import their collectible assets from the WAX blockchain into the Upland ecosystem. Building upon that foundation, we proudly announce that within the next few days, Upland will open an NFT asset portal to Ethereum. With this integration, Uplanders will be able to leverage the power of Ethereum for their Upland assets starting with Block Explorers.

Launch of NFT Portal to Ethereum

In the first version of the updated NFT portal, users can download and reclaim Block Explorer NFTs. The download flow enables you to port your Block Explorer to an Ethereum Wallet, granting you complete ownership and control over your Block Explorer within the Ethereum ecosystem. The reclaim flow empowers you to bring your Ethereum Upland NFT back to Upland, ensuring you can still fully utilize it within the Upland metaverse.

This groundbreaking functionality also opens doors to new horizons for Uplanders. By bridging the gap between Upland and Ethereum, you’ll be able to sell your Upland assets on popular marketplaces such as OpenSea, opening up new avenues for trading and monetization.

How to Use the NFT Portal

Below you'll find step-by-step instructions on how to use the updated NFT Portal's download and reclaim flows. These instructions will help you navigate through the process when this new feature has been implemented.

Download Flow Steps:

  1. Select “Portal” in the Upland Quick Menu and choose DOWNLOAD NFTs
  2. Choose Ethereum as your destination blockchain
  3. Use an already connected wallet or connect a new wallet by pressing on “MAP NEW ACCOUNT” at the bottom, which will trigger a signature request on your browser wallet, such as MetaMask. Then proceed with the selected account.
  4. Select the NFT you wish to download. Already downloaded NFTs, or ones that are on sale at a shop or in offers, will not be available for download.
  5. A popup will then appear with a fee advisory denominated in UPX. Upland has an oracle that estimates gas fees on Ethereum and allows users to pay those in UPX for the download. Confirm the fee. This will trigger a transaction of UPX from your account and the download flow onto Ethereum.
  6. The Wrapped NFT will appear in your Ethereum wallet within a few minutes, depending on the congestion in the Ethereum network.
  7. The NFT view would indicate that it is downloaded under “ownership”. You will not be able to trade or use it in Upland until it is reclaimed.

Your NFT will then appear on the official Upland Block Explorers OpenSea collection page.

If your NFT is not showing up on your METAMASK after it was downloaded (do allow 10 minutes for the transaction to complete), please make sure to set your MetaMask account to AutoDetect NFTs feature (settings -> security & Privacy -> scroll all the way down)

Reclaim Flow Steps:

Step 1: Identify your Token ID

Option 1: OpenSea

  1. Token ID can be found on OpenSea in Token → Details within the OpenSea Profile.

Option 2: Etherscan.io

  1. Once the token download is completed, you can find transaction details under Contract → Transactions at etherscan.io
  2. You can identify the specific transaction there, go to its Overview and get the corresponding Token ID from the 'ERC-721 Tokens Transferred' field.
  3. Token Details can also be found by searching your Wallet Address at etherscan.io and navigating to the ‘NFT Transfers’ tab, which will give the overview of all the transfers processed through the related wallet and identify the transaction by the timeframe it was conducted in.

Step 2: Initiate Token Reclaim on Etherscan.io

  1. As the owner of the token, you can navigate to the Upland UNFT Contract (link) → Contract Tab → Write Contract
  1. Make sure you have your wallet connected (press “Connect to Web3”)
  1. Choose option #5: Reclaim method and add the token ID identified in Step 1
  1. Press “Write” to call initiate the reclaim of the token from Ethereum to Upland.

Step 3: Transfer Token from Ethereum to Upland

  1. In Upland, navigate to the Portal in the menu bar and continue to the Reclaim Downloaded NFT option, choosing Ethereum. Make sure the Ethereum wallet is connected.
  2. Once Reclaim is initiated on Ethereum and the Ethereum wallet address is linked to your Upland account, the token will be transferred to the owner of that account in Upland automatically.
  3. Once the transaction is completed, you will receive a notification inside Upland which will confirm the successful reclaim of the downloaded NFT. This may take longer than expected when the Ethereum network is congested.

How Does the NFT Portal Work?

Upland native NFT assets that are ported into Ethereum are essentially wrapped with an ownership token on Ethereum. A wrapped crypto token is a tokenized representation of a particular token - in this case, a Block Explorer NFT on the EOS Blockchain, with the exact same value, that is operable on another blockchain. The original token is locked to prevent double-spend. Token wrapping is a popular method for porting cryptocurrencies into other ecosystems. For example, BTC is sometimes wrapped so it can be used as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain in the form of WBTC (Wrapped BTC). When an NFT is reclaimed into Upland, the wrapped asset is burned on the Ethereum side and only then released back into the Upland ecosystem.

Future of the NFT Portal

Looking ahead, Upland is dedicated to further enhancing the new NFT portal's capabilities. Our roadmap includes plans to extend the download and reclaim functionality to other Upland asset classes, including cars and map assets.

Our belief in the open metaverse extends beyond the development of Upland’s NFT portal. Upland’s Co-CEOs Dirk Lueth and Idan Zuckerman actively lead working groups within the Open Metaverse Association (OMA3), focusing on asset bridging. Through these collaborative efforts, we are continuously contributing to shaping the future of the Open Metaverse and striving to transform this vision into a tangible reality.

Together, let’s unlock the full potential of the open metaverse. Stay tuned for more updates as we shape the future of the open metaverse, one milestone at a time.
