Boats & Fishing Are Officially Coming to Upland in 2026

For years, Uppies exploring the world of Upland have looked out across the blue lakes, bays, and oceans and asked the same question: Why can’t we go out there? What’s in the water? Can we fish?

Today, we’re excited to officially share that boats and fishing are coming to Upland!

This brand-new feature is actively in development and is scheduled to arrive later in 2026. To prepare for what’s ahead, we’re introducing the very first boats and marinas.

Before we dive into the details of the initial sale, let’s explore how boating and fishing fit into Upland’s core experience of property development and world-building.

Fishing, Troves, and the Future of Exploration

As Upland continues to evolve, Troves will play an increasingly important role in gameplay.

Troves are account-bound items that will appear throughout the map and can be collected through service structures, buildings, activities, and exploration. They are central to discovery and progression across Upland. You can read more about Troves here.

With the launch of fishing, a variety of fish troves will become available.

Players with boats will be able to venture onto lakes and oceans to fish. What you catch, and how much, will depend entirely on where you fish. Fishing close to shore may yield one type of fish. Venturing into deep ocean waters may unlock another. Exploring lakes may reveal entirely different species.

Not all fish will be available in every location. Fish migrate. Exploration matters. The waters of Upland will become dynamic zones of discovery.

And importantly, fishing can only be done from boats. Players will not be able to fish from shoreline or waterfront properties. To participate, you will need to set sail.

Why Fish?

Fishing is not just about collecting something new. It is about expanding how players engage with the Upland economy.

Like other troves, fish troves will carry real utility. The fish you collect can be brought to Fish Markets, Restaurants, and Supermarkets, where they can be exchanged for other troves you may need. In some cases, even pet stores may accept certain fish, including decorative or coral varieties, opening the door to additional strategic decisions.

Not all fish troves will be the same. They will exist across different levels and rarities, from common to uncommon and beyond. Lower-level fish may be easier to obtain near shorelines or in lakes, while rarer, higher-level fish will require more deliberate exploration and stronger vessels capable of reaching deeper waters.

Players will have options. Some players may focus on catching fish themselves, while others may use service structures to exchange their collected troves for the fish they need. Others may focus on venturing farther offshore to directly secure higher-level troves. Where you fish, what you catch, and how you choose to exchange it will shape your progression.

Troves will also be central to befriending Uppies. Completing their missions and ultimately adding them to your collection will require specific troves at specific levels. Fishing becomes one of the pathways to obtaining exactly what you need.

As we move closer to launch, we will share more details on trove mechanics, rarity tiers, and how leveling will work. For now, it is important to understand that fishing is not just a side activity. It is a new strategic layer woven directly into Upland’s core systems.

How Fishing Works

Fishing is being designed to feel like true exploration, not a static activity.

Players will deploy their boat from a marina and send it out onto a lake, bay, or ocean. Once positioned on the water, the boat functions similarly to a structure in Upland. You will interact with it directly, initiating fishing actions from its location on the map.

Each interaction represents an opportunity. Sometimes you will reel in a common fish trove. Other times, you may secure something less common, potentially even rare. There may also be moments where you come up empty, reinforcing the idea that fishing is influenced by timing, location, and movement rather than guaranteed outcomes.

Where you position your boat will matter. Fishing near the shoreline may yield a different mix of fish than fishing farther offshore. Lakes will behave differently from oceans. Certain areas may prove more productive depending on migration patterns and future gameplay systems tied to water zones.

Boats themselves also introduce strategy. Smaller vessels are built for nearshore waters, limiting how far you can travel. Larger boats unlock access to deeper regions, expanding the range of fish troves you can pursue. Choosing the right vessel and marina becomes part of your long-term planning.

Fishing is not intended to be passive. It is a map-based activity rooted in movement, positioning, and decision-making. As with property development and trading, players who explore thoughtfully and plan strategically will be best positioned to maximize their results.

More details around mechanics, timing, and advanced systems will be shared as development progresses toward the 2026 launch.

Introducing Marinas

Boats need a home, and in Upland, that home is a marina.

Marinas are a dedicated property type integrated into Upland’s real estate system. They can be bought, sold, and traded just like other properties, but their function is specific. Boats can only be placed at marinas. They cannot be placed on land properties, including waterfront builds. Marinas also cannot be developed or built upon. Their purpose is singular: housing boats.

Location is what gives marinas their strategic value, as boats are limited to operating within the range accessible from the marina where they are docked.

The marina where you dock your boat determines the waters you can access and, ultimately, where you can fish. Proximity to lakes, bays, or open ocean will shape exploration routes and fishing opportunities. Choosing a marina is not just about ownership. It is about positioning.

For now, players who own multiple marinas will be able to move their boats between them. Once full boating functionality goes live, movement rules may evolve as range, travel, and positioning systems become more defined.

Boats do not contribute to Transportation Score, as marina locations are intentionally limited and not designed to function as part of the transportation network.

The first marinas will launch in the Genesis City of San Francisco, with additional locations planned for other cities featuring major bodies of water over time.

Boat Types

Not all boats are created equal, and access to a boatwill be required in order to fish. Players will not be able to fish from shorelines or waterfront properties. To participate in fishing, players will need access to a vessel deployed from a marina.

Boats will not impact Transportation Score. However, a boat’s size and capability will matter.

Smaller personal boats are designed for lakes and nearshore waters, limiting how far they can travel from their marina. Larger vessels are built for extended range, allowing players to venture farther offshore and access deeper fishing zones. As exploration expands across Upland’s waterways, the type of boat you use will directly influence where you can go and what you can catch.

Skiff

A personal watercraft built for basic fishing on lakes and just off the coastline. Ideal for players starting their fishing journey.

Speed Boat

The Speed Boat is the same size class as the Skiff but offers greater speed and performance. While it will be limited to the same fishing zones and range as the Skiff, it can reach those areas more quickly.

That added speed provides a strategic advantage. Players can reposition faster, respond more efficiently to fish migration, and spend less time traveling between fishing areas. Built for both recreation and fishing, the Speed Boat delivers improved mobility without extending offshore range.

Pilot House

A larger and more powerful vessel capable of venturing farther offshore than previous models. Offers expanded exploration potential.

Fishing Yacht

The ultimate fishing vessel. Built for deep ocean travel, this yacht unlocks access to the most unique and hard-to-find fish troves in Upland.

The First Boat Sale

We are introducing the first wave of boats alongside dedicated marina properties in San Francisco.

This release marks the beginning of Upland’s expansion into the water. While boating and fishing systems are still in active development and scheduled to launch in 2026, players will have the opportunity to secure their vessels and marina locations in advance.

At the time of purchase, boats will not yet be functional. These assets represent early positioning within the ecosystem, allowing players to establish waterfront access and prepare for the full boating and fishing rollout.

The Fishing Yacht will be the rarest vessel available. It cannot be purchased directly. The only way to obtain a Fishing Yacht is by winning it through select bundles. A small number of lucky players will receive one in place of their standard boat in two of the three available bundles, making it a limited and highly sought-after reward.

A Bigger Vision for Upland

Boating and fishing are not simply new activities. They represent a structural expansion of how the Upland world functions.

For the first time, the water becomes usable territory. Lakes, bays, and oceans are no longer background. They become active zones of exploration, resource collection, and strategic positioning. This shift introduces deeper map exploration, greater utility for service structures, and a meaningful addition to the upcoming trove system.

Fishing connects directly to progression. Troves gained through exploration will fuel infrastructure, support exchanges across businesses, and play a key role in befriending Uppies. Property location will take on new importance as marina placement and water access begin influencing opportunity and value.

At its core, Upland remains grounded in property trading, development, and world-building. Boating and fishing strengthen that foundation by adding a new economic layer that ties exploration, ownership, and strategy together.

Boats and fishing mark the next phase of Upland’s 2026 evolution.
