Big changes are coming to Upland, and at the center of it all are the newest digital residents set to bring cities to life: Uppies.

As we gear up for the launch of the new Residents feature, it’s time to take a closer look at who the Uppies are, how they’ll interact with your properties, and why they’re about to become a cornerstone of Upland’s future.

Uppies aren’t mere statistics. They’re the heartbeat of the vibrant communities Uplanders are building every day. Think of them as real digital citizens with personalities, interests, and unique stories. From young families looking for schools and parks, to professionals eager for great jobs and nightlife, Uppies are searching for more than just a place to live. They want places where they can truly thrive.

Supply, Demand, and Fierce Competition

The total number of Uppies in Upland will be tied to a global population system linked directly to the supply of Living Units. But here’s the twist: there will always be far more addresses than there are residents. That means competition will be fierce as players work to make their neighborhoods the most appealing destinations on the map.

Each neighborhood can only support as many Uppies as it has Living Units available. But attracting Uppies isn’t as simple as having vacant space. They’re choosy digital citizens. They’ll gravitate toward neighborhoods with diverse services, strong infrastructure, and all the amenities of a bustling, well-rounded community.

Many Upland players have already begun laying the groundwork for this next phase by building the first batch of service structures that will help attract these Uppies. From shops and entertainment venues to essential services, these early developments will play a crucial role in shaping which neighborhoods become the most desirable places for Uppies to call home.

So, if you want Uppies to move in, you’ll need to give them reasons to choose your neighborhood. Schools, shops, entertainment, safety, jobs, and transit are just a few of the keys to transforming your area into a thriving hub in the next chapter of Upland.

Befriending Uppies: A New Mini-Game

Soon, players will be able to set out on Uppie Discoveries, sending their Block Explorers across the map in search of Uppies living at different residences.

Here’s how it will work:

Explore Upland: As your Block Explorer travels through Upland, you’ll come across residences where certain Uppies are living. Some of these Uppies will be marked as discoverable, signaling that you have a chance to befriend (mint) them. Only a select number of Uppies are discoverable at any given time, adding an element of rarity and surprise to your journey.

Befriend Them: When you find a discoverable Uppie, you’ll get the opportunity to befriend them by playing a quick mini-game.

Build Your Collection: If you succeed, you’ll unlock the option to befriend that Uppie and mint them into your personal collection. Each time, the minting fee will be a fluctuating UPX amount, ranging from very affordable to more expensive. It’s always your choice whether to mint or move on.

If you decide to befriend the Uppie and pay the UPX fee, you’ll receive the Uppie as a legit in your collection, complete with their photo, name, and details. Plus, the player who owns the property where that Uppie was residing will receive a portion of the UPX spent, creating new opportunities for community engagementandeconomic activity across Upland.

Each discoverable Uppie has a name, appearance, and backstory, making them a unique part of the Upland world.

Upland will feature both common and rare Uppies, some will be everyday citizens, families searching for good schools and parks, professionals focused on their careers, business owners opening shops, or artists adding color and character to their neighborhoods.

In addition to everyday citizens, Upland will also feature iconic Uppies who are humorous and fictional characters created as parodies, each with unique designs and personalities. These Uppies will stand out for their distinct identities and stories, adding a new layer of fun and cultural flavor to the game.

The ability to discover and collect Uppies is planned for a future release after Residents go live, and while it’s a bit further out, we’re excited for all the new stories and connections it will bring to Upland.

The Future and Utility of Uppies

Uppies are opening up an entirely new chapter for Upland, and their utility will continue to evolve over time.

From the moment Uppies launch, players will be free to buy,sell, and trade them on the secondary market. This creates a dynamic new layer of community interaction and economy within the game, letting players shape how Uppies circulate and become part of Upland’s growing world.

One area we’re actively exploring is the concept of permanent residents. In the future, players may be able to assign their Uppie legits to specific properties, making them permanent inhabitants of those structures. This could bring new storylines, cultural depth, and potential benefits for players who choose to build communities around their Uppies.

These ideas are still in development as we test and refine what will bring the most value and fun to the Upland experience.
