At Upland, we firmly believe in the power of the open metaverse and envision an open economy as the future of online platforms. As part of our commitment to this vision, we have been working on enabling the interoperability of digital assets across different blockchains.
Previously, we successfully built an NFT portal with WAX where players import their collectible assets from the WAX blockchain into the Upland ecosystem. Building upon that foundation, we proudly announce that within the next few days, Upland will open an NFT asset portal to Ethereum. With this integration, Uplanders will be able to leverage the power of Ethereum for their Upland assets starting with Block Explorers.
In the first version of the updated NFT portal, users can download and reclaim Block Explorer NFTs. The download flow enables you to port your Block Explorer to an Ethereum Wallet, granting you complete ownership and control over your Block Explorer within the Ethereum ecosystem. The reclaim flow empowers you to bring your Ethereum Upland NFT back to Upland, ensuring you can still fully utilize it within the Upland metaverse.
This groundbreaking functionality also opens doors to new horizons for Uplanders. By bridging the gap between Upland and Ethereum, you’ll be able to sell your Upland assets on popular marketplaces such as OpenSea, opening up new avenues for trading and monetization.
Below you'll find step-by-step instructions on how to use the updated NFT Portal's download and reclaim flows. These instructions will help you navigate through the process when this new feature has been implemented.
Your NFT will then appear on the official Upland Block Explorers OpenSea collection page.
If your NFT is not showing up on your METAMASK after it was downloaded (do allow 10 minutes for the transaction to complete), please make sure to set your MetaMask account to AutoDetect NFTs feature (settings -> security & Privacy -> scroll all the way down)

Upland native NFT assets that are ported into Ethereum are essentially wrapped with an ownership token on Ethereum. A wrapped crypto token is a tokenized representation of a particular token - in this case, a Block Explorer NFT on the EOS Blockchain, with the exact same value, that is operable on another blockchain. The original token is locked to prevent double-spend. Token wrapping is a popular method for porting cryptocurrencies into other ecosystems. For example, BTC is sometimes wrapped so it can be used as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain in the form of WBTC (Wrapped BTC). When an NFT is reclaimed into Upland, the wrapped asset is burned on the Ethereum side and only then released back into the Upland ecosystem.
Looking ahead, Upland is dedicated to further enhancing the new NFT portal's capabilities. Our roadmap includes plans to extend the download and reclaim functionality to other Upland asset classes, including cars and map assets.
Our belief in the open metaverse extends beyond the development of Upland’s NFT portal. Upland’s Co-CEOs Dirk Lueth and Idan Zuckerman actively lead working groups within the Open Metaverse Association (OMA3), focusing on asset bridging. Through these collaborative efforts, we are continuously contributing to shaping the future of the Open Metaverse and striving to transform this vision into a tangible reality.
Together, let’s unlock the full potential of the open metaverse. Stay tuned for more updates as we shape the future of the open metaverse, one milestone at a time.
