Residents Are Coming to Upland: Get Ready for the Age of the Uppies

A new chapter is unfolding in Upland. We’re excited to announce that residents, known as Uppies, are on their way, marking a major evolution in the Upland experience!

At its core, Upland has always been about property ownership, strategy, and city-building, and now, those foundations are coming to life in a whole new way. As Uppies arrive, every property, structure, and neighborhood will matter more than ever, as players compete to attract and retain these digital citizens.

Uppies: The Future Citizens of Upland

They’re packing their bags, plotting their moves, and eyeing the best neighborhoods, Uppies are coming to Upland.

These digital residents aren’t just statistics; they’re the heartbeat of the cities players are building. From young families looking for schools and parks, to professionals seeking good jobs and vibrant nightlife, Uppies are looking for more than just a place to live, they’re looking for a place to thrive.

The total number of Uppies in Upland is governed by a global population system, tied directly to the total supply of Living Units. But here’s the twist: there will be far more addresses than residents. That means competition will be fierce, as players work to make their neighborhoods the most appealing destinations on the map.

Each neighborhood can only support as many Uppies as it has available Living Units. But attracting Uppies takes more than just open space, they’re selective. They’ll gravitate toward areas with diverse services, strong infrastructure, and all the amenities of a real, bustling community.

Want Uppies to move in? Give them a reason. Schools, shops, entertainment, safety, jobs, and transit, these are the keys to becoming a thriving hub in the next evolution of Upland.

Building the Foundations of a Livable Upland

To support and grow your local Uppie population, neighborhoods will need a mix of essential Service Structures. These new structure types ensure your neighborhood has everything it needs, from education and safety to leisure and daily necessities.

Service Structures are grouped into three key categories:

Public Services

Keep your Uppies safe, healthy, and educated. These structures form the civic backbone of a neighborhood, influencing everything from crime rates to learning opportunities.

Includes: Police Stations, Fire Stations, Schools, Hospitals, Clinics, and more.

Essentials

Where Uppies meet their everyday needs. Essentials are the local businesses and services that make daily life comfortable and convenient.

Includes: Supermarkets, Utility Stores, Barber Shops and more.

Entertainment

Let your Uppies unwind and have fun. Entertainment spots add character and vibrancy, helping neighborhoods stand out and draw in residents looking for lifestyle perks.

Includes: Movie Theaters, Ice Rinks, Coffee Shops, Sports Fields, and more.

Don’t Forget Employment and Transportation

Uppies also want jobs and mobility. Employment structures like Metaventures, factories, showrooms and active home addresses play a critical role, along with a transportation infrastructure, that will be measured by the number of cars, trucks, and buses in your neighborhood.

Even map assets and decorative elements can sway where Uppies decide to settle, variety and completeness will set neighborhoods apart. A city block with a single entertainment venue might lose residents to another that offers a full, vibrant mix.

Introducing the First Service Structures

To help players get ready for residents, Upland is launching the first wave of service structures. These buildings will be sold in unlimited quantities but only during a limited time window. Once the sale ends, the specific designs will no longer be available, though future variants may be released later.

To maintain balance and ensure thoughtful development across Upland, service structures are being released in tiers based on player level and price. This prevents an unchecked influx of buildings and promotes more strategic city planning across all neighborhoods.

Similar to how existing buildings use Living Units, Service Structures will use Service Units, a new metric that reflects the functional capacity of each structure. Different types of service structures will contribute different amounts of Service Units, which will play a key role in determining how attractive a neighborhood is to Uppies.

These units will be central to how resident placement is calculated, adding a strategic layer to neighborhood planning. All structure metadata, including Service Unit values, is subject to change as this feature evolves and we gather feedback during rollout.

We also foresee a new kind of Uplander emerging, one who specializes in service infrastructure. Some players may choose to collect every available structure, becoming experts in building fully equipped neighborhoods that cater to the needs of Uppies.

This is just the beginning. We’ll be closely monitoring how the initial release performs and may adjust access, pricing, or availability in the future to ensure the ecosystem remains healthy and engaging for all players.

Players who purchase a structure gain the permanent right to build it on any suitable property they own.
