The Future of Upland’s Marketplace Starts Now
May 14, 2026

Today, we’re excited to share an important update to the Uppies website, along with a broader look at how we’re thinking about the future of Metaventures and marketplace activity in Upland.
These changes are part of our ongoing effort to make Upland’s economy more open, more accessible, and easier for players to participate in.
Uppies Are Now Easier to Trade
The Uppies website has officially been updated to allow anyone to buy Uppies directly from other players through the site.

Any Uppie listed for sale can now be purchased using either UPX or USD. When players list their Uppies for sale in Upland for UPX or USD, those listings will also appear on the Uppies website, making them easier to discover and purchase.

With this new version of the Uppies website, buyers no longer need to visit a Metaventurein Upland to purchase an Uppie. While sellers still need to travel to the appropriate location in Upland in order to list their Uppies, the buying experience is now much more accessible.
The long-term goal is to make Uppies more accessible to everyone, both inside and outside of Upland. This is the first step in that process, and it also connects to how we’re thinking about the future of Metaventures and marketplace activity more broadly.

We’re also experimenting with the ability for players to list Uppies for sale directly from the Uppies website. At this stage, Uppies listed directly on the site can only be listed for UPX, and those listings will appear only on the Uppies website, not in Upland.
This is just phase one of the Uppies website marketplace feature. We’ll be monitoring how players use it, listening closely to feedback, and adding more functionality and features over time.
Our goal is to make Uppies easier to discover, buy, sell, and collect for everyone, whether they’re already active in Upland or discovering Uppies for the first time. This update is another important step toward creating a more accessible, connected, and player-driven marketplace experience.

The Future of Metaventures
The Uppies marketplace update is part of a larger redesign we’re actively working on for Metaventures and marketplace systems in Upland.
Our goal is to create the most open and accessible economy possible for players to buy, sell, and trade their assets, while also making marketplace activity easier and more active across the ecosystem.
Up until now, players who wanted to sell certain items have needed to list them through a Metaventure. These Metaventures have served as player-owned storefronts where items could be listed for sale.

That system has worked well, but it can also create friction. Requiring players to go through a Metaventure in order to sell items can limit accessibility and potentially reduce the number of items being listed, purchased, or traded.
To address this, we’re working on a redesign of how Metaventures operate.
A More Open Marketplace
The first major change we’re exploring is allowing all players to list items directly to the marketplace without needing to go through a Metaventure.
This would give both buyers and sellers more options, reduce friction, and create more opportunities for economic activity across Upland.
As part of this, we’re also looking at a broader marketplace redesign. Think of it as a more searchable, Amazon-style marketplace where players can search for an item and see all available listings directly from other players.

This change would also require updates to how location-based shopping works. Today, if you own a property in the same city where a Metaventure is located, you can place purchased items on that property. With direct marketplace listings, players would be able to buy and sell more broadly, with items delivered to properties outside of the seller’s immediate city.
To make that work, UPX shipping fees would need to be introduced. The farther an item has to travel, the higher the shipping fee would be. This allows us to reduce friction in the marketplace while continuing to preserve the value of location, travel, and property ownership within Upland’s economy.
So Why Own a Metaventure?
Under this new model, Metaventures would still play an important role, but that role would evolve.
Instead of being required in order to sell certain items, Metaventures would become location-based personal storefronts for the players who own them. They would be a place for players to curate items, build a recognizable storefront, and create a more discoverable shopping experience.
For example, if you’re browsing the marketplace and buying an item from Miles, and Miles owns a Metaventure, you could click on his name to view his full storefront, see everything he’s offering, and view the location of his Metaventures.
Using the Amazon marketplace comparison again, this would be similar to how brands have dedicated storefronts where shoppers can browse all of their products in one place.
Longer term, this also creates opportunities for Metaventure owners, creators, and their products to be featured outside of Upland itself, similar to how Uppies are now becoming more discoverable through the Uppies website. This would give player-created items and curated storefronts more visibility, not only inside Upland, but potentially to people discovering Upland assets from outside the platform as well.

Under this model, there would be no Metaventure dues. Metaventures would become a point of curation, discovery, and identity rather than a requirement for participating in the marketplace.
The goal is to make selling easier for every player while giving Metaventure owners more meaningful ways to stand out. By removing unnecessary barriers and turning Metaventures into storefronts built around curation, location, and discovery, we believe this approach can create a more active marketplace, more visibility for sellers, and more choice for buyers across Upland.
We Want Your Feedback
We believe these changes would open up Upland’s economy in a meaningful way by making it easier for more players to participate, list items, discover opportunities, and engage in the kind of open economic activity that makes Upland unique.
That said, we want your feedback.
We want to hear what you think about this direction, including whether you think it’s a bad idea and why. We also want to know what suggestions you have and what features you’d like to see in a redesigned marketplace.
Big Changes Ahead
Between the Uppies marketplace update and the future redesign of Metaventures, our goal is clear: continue improving Upland’s systems to make them more accessible, more active, and more valuable for players.
Upland’s open economy is one of the things that makes it truly unique, and we’re excited to keep building systems that give players more exposure, more flexibility, and more ways to participate.
