What is Upland?

Upland is the only persistent, real-world city-builder and property trading game on a shared map that never resets. You acquire, trade, and develop virtual properties tied to actual addresses across 50+ cities, attract digital residents called Uppies, and trade in an open economy powered by three purpose-built currencies. Upland launched in 2019.

How it feels to play

Upland blends the satisfaction of city-building with the energy of a live, player-driven economy. Travel takes time, supply chains matter, and collaboration wins. You acquire properties at real addresses, develop them with structures, and watch the world respond — residents move in, neighborhoods come alive, and the things you build start producing goods that fuel everything else. Factories turn resources into items that move across the map and sell through player storefronts. Plants and farms need time to grow and care to thrive.

Go solo or coordinate with neighbors to deliver bigger projects faster. There are many ways to play — trade, build, explore, create, compete, collaborate — and you're in charge of deciding.

Community at the core

Players, called Architects, co‑author Upland’s world—organizing neighborhood builds, publishing guides/media, running events, and welcoming newcomers. Many stay for the social fabric as much as the gameplay. Your city becomes a place you help lead.

What you can do

  • Plan. Research cities, time new city openings, pick promising neighborhoods, and optimize property collections.
  • Collect. Properties, troves, Uppies.
  • Trade. Buy/sell virtual properties and items in the live player marketplace.
  • Build. Construct homes, showrooms, and shops, residential and service structures; plant trees, shape a district’s look and performance.
  • Compete. Join challenges, car races, design contests, and climb leaderboards.
  • Create. Design buildings, décor, signage, and experiences that define your area’s identity.
  • Entrepreneurship. Launch player‑run shops (Metaventures), provide services, manage logistics, and scale using in‑game resources like UPX and Sparklet.
